SmartExtraction is superior to other technologies in terms of yield, DNA quality, and efficiency criteria as well: given appropriate starting materials, its tremendous binding capacity makes the technology suitable for extracting large amounts of high molecular weight DNA.

The system eliminates the need for other solid phases, such as filter materials, magnetic particles and silica – along with all of their disadvantages. The process also eliminates such time-consuming steps as resuspension and separation/ centrifugation. 

The Smart Modified Surface ensures that the entire extraction process takes place right inside the pipette tip. For existing workflows, this means that special tools, such as magnets, vacuum station or centrifuges, are not needed for any of steps involved.

From lysis to DNA desorption, the entire process consists of nothing more than pipetting up and down. Because the DNA no longer needs to be bound to magnetic particles or silica, the process also eliminates such time-consuming steps as resuspension and separation/ centrifugation.

In order to maximize the freedom that users have in selecting the best tool for their needs, the SmartExtraction concept is not linked to any single platform: the technology can be used on all Analytik Jena pipetting systems  and can be adapted to any Liquid-handling platform with 1 ml pipetting heads.
